Crochet Baby Cocoon Very Easy! Pattern for Easy Peasy Crochet Baby Cocoon

Good Morning Lovelies,

It's a 3 Day weekend in the USA! I am looking forward to doing some final touches to my soon to be baby girl's room and crochet some more goodies for her. I have been pinning it up on pinterest with baby booties and cute hats to make for baby M so this weekend is my designated time to get some made.

Earlier in the week I shared a quick photo of the green crochet cocoon which will look much better in photos when I had a baby to put in there! For now we have to make do with just the cocoon. But I do want to share the pattern and it can't be any easier.
Yarn: Lion Brand Wool Ease. Thick & Quick.
Color: Grass
Hook: N (what the yarn packaging said to use for that yarn)

After the photo infused pattern I have the pattern without photos for those who do not like photos or want to copy just the pattern part to save or print somewhere.

Easy Peasy Crochet Baby Cocoon
Pattern: to start Chain 4, slip stitch to form a ring
Row 1: chain 2, 11 dc into the ring (ch 2 at beginning counts serves as the twelfth dc), sl st.

Row 2: chain 2, *2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc*, repeat until end of row two, sl st

Row 3: chain 2, *2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 2 stitches*, repeat until end of row. (so it should be 2 dc, 1 dc, 1 dc, 2 dc, 1 dc, 1 dc, 2 dc, ...), sl st.

Rows 4-18: dc into each stitch, sl st. (You may need to do more or less rows to get to the 17 inches in length.

Final Row: chain 1, sc in each stitch.
At around 17 inches in length do your final row (for newborn size cocoon).

Just pattern no photos:

This was super easy to make and the yarn is nice and soft. If your cocoon is tight try stitching looser or use a larger hook. Please let me know if you have any problems with the pattern.

Happy Hooking!!!!

xoxo Susan

    1. It'll fit up to a 10lbs baby.it has a lot of give in it because its a larger hook and uses double crochet stitch.

  3. When working 4-18 do you first chain 2 before starting to dc around? Please help!

  4. I also would like to know about the chain 2 on rows 4-18.

  5. I did not chain 2 for rows 4-18. The pattern is as written. When I did chain 2 it made the cocoon too wide.

    1. if it's too wide, then it means you're adding increases without realizing. when you chain into the next row, you SKIP the next stitch.

always slip stitch in the chains of the previous row then , chain in the next stitch and then skip.
slip stitch, chain then skip , otherwise there will be spiral

always keep marker, which should always the chain stitch,

    2. I'm a little confused, why is there a SC in row three? It day 2DC, 1DC in the next two. .. But then goes 2dc, 2dc, 2dc, 2dc, 1dc, 1sc..... was that a typo? The s and d are right next to each other...

  6. Hi! I love your free patterns, and I was wondering if I might get your permission to sell finished products from your patterns. I would link back to your site. I look forward to your reply. Thanks in advance!

  7. HI! I'd like to make this cocoon for a 3-6 month old and use it as a sleeping sack. How would I change the pattern to fit a baby this old? Thanks! :)

  8. buona sera

Altrimenti viene troppo stretto

  14. The pattern didn't work for me, it just ended up a long slender tube, not wide enough for a baby

    1. I think she has missed the second round, which should be 2 dc in each stitch, for a total of 24DC to second round. And then continue as the second round with 3ch * 2DC, 1DC *

    2. I do not read the pattern as above reply did. I read 2dc in a stitch then next st 1 dc. Repeat until end of row.

  16. Thanks for this pretty easy pattern. But i'll suggest that if the length measurement was given in inches (17"), it would be nice, easier and more explanatory if the width/wideness tip be given as such (in inches). This is because yarn measurement differs from place to place. Thanks.

  18. Can you used (#4) medium weight yarn for this pattern?

  19. Hi Susan I only have a question about rows 2 & 3 when you say 2 dc in the "next st" you mean not the first dc of the previous row or same st but in the second st correct?

    ReplyDelete
  20. This is not a very wide cocoon. I am starting on the 4th row and can see that there is no way a baby will be able to fit in here. I have done what the instructions said.

    1. It may be too late now, but try increasing into every st on the second row (2dc into each dc) then take up the pattern, so the increase on the pattern's row 2, becomes your row 3.

      Hope this helps.
